[Review of East End My Cradle.]

Bates reviews East End My Cradle, by William Goldman, in an unidentified issue of Books of the Month, soon after the book's publication in April, 1940. In an unidentified source, a quotation from the review reads: "What makes Mr. Goldman’s picture remarkable is not only its vivid and living drawing, but the fact that humour, rather than bitterness, is its prevailing note… a fine and moving chapter called ‘A Youthful Idyll’… with slight alterations might survive as a short story as poignant as anything of Gorky…"
