"A Great Patron of Literature."

Bates pays tribute to Louis Sterling upon the donation of his collection of rare books and manuscripts to the University of London. Interestingly, Bates omits that Sterling's purchase of many of his own manuscripts helped him to purchase his home in Kent in 1931. in 1952 Bates referred obliquely to Sterling's assistance to him ("The New Writer's Cramp"). In the final issue of John O'London's Weekly (September 10, 1954, p. 903).
