H.E. Bates Companion

A story similar in style to "Flying Officer X" tales but published only in a military journal with the byline "Flight Lieutenant H.E. Bates" and situated not in England among R.A.F. pilots but in Russia among partisan soldiers. The narrator converses with a young girl soldier before she and her fellow soldiers leave on an operation.
