"The Picnic."

A comic tale of a scheming and eccentric aunt -- not unlike that of another tale of this period, "The Trespasser" -- involving matchmaking, alcohol, and terrible cooking. Bates would revive the character of Aunt Leonora in the 1968 novella "The Chords of Youth." In Woman's Journal (April 1965), Argosy (August 1965), The Wedding Party (1965).
