"The Snow Line."

A long story concerning a village shop-keeper turned mountain-climber, on vacation with one of his former customers; her interest in him is not reciprocated and they part unpleasantly and later his attraction to a young man, killed in a climbing accident, is revealed. Many years later, the woman attempts to trick him into a compromising situation but falls from a cliff, leaving him once again free.
