"The Ballad of the Seine."

The first of three columns in 1950 with the shared title "The Magic of Paris" (the others being "Morning Wakes Montmartre" and "Latin Quarter"). A fourth article simply called "The Magic of Paris" appeared in 1951. In this installment, Bates recalls his enjoyment of the city in the summer of 1944 and reflects that the Seine "is an artery of all that is still sweet and vigorous in the body of Europe." With numerous photographs. In Illustrated (September 16, 1950).
