H.E. Bates Companion

A greedy woman plots the death of her invalid husband, as seen through the eyes of her lover, a decent truck-driver who has been innocently drawn into her web. The story was adapted for television and first aired in 1960 in the series "ITV Television Playhouse." A 1974 film called "Nachtroute Brussel" was based on the story. In Death of a Huntsman/Summer in Salander (1957) The Grapes of Paradise (1974). The novella was dramatized for the BBC by Gregory Evans in 1985 in a production starring Anton Lesser (free signup required to listen); however the title is mistakenly given as "Light Run to the West."
