"The Sugar Train."

The fourth of six brief newspaper "Tales of Tahiti." Stalled at an airport rest-house en route to Tahiti, Bates describes two people: the ultra-efficient and meticulous Mrs. Meredith who runs the rest-house, providing tea and other comforts for waiting travelers, and her husband, a drinking womanizer, retired from work in the sugar trade, whose sole passion is growing orchids. In the Evening Standard (October 20, 1955, p. 19).
