"Talk About the Land."
One of two reviews by Bates of H.J. Massingham's England and the Farmer, (the other appearing in the August 1941 issue of Life and Letters To-day). In both reviews, Bates is highly critical of Massingham's selection of contributors and of some of his basic premises. The review led to a contentious interchange between the two writers. In The Spectator (25 July 1941, p. 90).
